Summer 2023 has been INCREDIBLE for Augie’s Adventures!!
So much joy was experienced on our property this summer! Dozens of special-needs families attended our two, free, family days of recreation on July 1, 2023 and August 6, 2023. We spotted parents lounging while enjoying Cane’s Chicken, while their kids splashed in the pool and shot hoops on the basketball court. Other parents took in some games of pool to cool off in the AC, while their kids recharged with table games. Families challenged each other to rowdy games of pickleball, after which they snacked on lemonade and cookies.
On July 11, we indulged a large group of volunteer women in a relaxing night that included: a painting lesson, (giant thanks to painting instructor, Elizabeth Mason!) appetizers, wine, and Bath & Body giveaways. It was the least we could do to demonstrate our gratitude for their volunteer caregiving during our parent support group meetings. Because of these ladies (and often also their family members,) our special-needs parents get to take much-needed breaks from parenting, while they attend our informative meetings, distraction-free.
Our first-ever Summer Bash and Augie’s 17th birthday fundraiser on July 29 was a smashing success! A huge group participated in this teen-centered fundraiser, complete with Freddy’s Custard – served up free by Freddy’s employees – as well as Cane’s Chicken, mac-n-cheese, chips, and cookies. The teens experienced the ultimate hangout from 1 til 5 with swimming, shooting hoops, playing pickleball and volleyball, shooting down a giant slip-n-slide, and more. We owe a world of thanks to our t-shirt creator and sponsor pair: designer, Gwene Daugherty, and realtor, Steve Muir, as well as the talented co-chairs and husband and wife team, Keith and Erin Koehne.
HUGE thanks to private individuals who donated generously in July, in honor of the birthday of Augie’s Adventures President and Founder, Heidi Terselic. The Terselic Family and Board is so thankful for every dollar given, each hour of volunteering, (big shout-out to Loveland High School former and current Adaptive P.E. Mentors!) and all encouragement and prayers! Let’s keep the exciting momentum going with a new schedule of compelling guest speakers at this year’s parent support group meetings! Mark your calendars for the third Thursday of each month, starting October through May.
Picnic – July 1st, 2023
Our first-ever, invitation-only picnic and play event for special-needs families was held on July 1, 2023. The rain clouds cleared just in time for the large group of families to enjoy swimming, pickleball, basketball, the swing set, and the trampoline, as well as some indoor games and activities. Kids and adults all enjoyed a delicious meal, while relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. Huge thanks to the group of volunteers, who interacted in all kinds of recreation with the kids! We can’t wait to host another event like this!
